Esther Greenwood Under the Fig Tree

This drawing is my depiction of Esther Greenwood from Sylvia Plath’s The Bell Jar. She is under the tree contemplating each fig, just as she was metaphorically in the seventh chapter of the book.
Esther Greenwood takes on more of Sylvia Plath in my representation. The biggest factor to that would be Esther’s chestnut-colored hair, as it was Plath’s own preference of hair color. I have seen a couple artworks of Esther that made her blonde, but I didn’t think blonde hair necessarily capture the air of bitterness and inward personality that Esther tended to resonate for me.
I have intended to draw this for International Women’s Day, but this had to come late unfortunately due to priorities for school. But in my heart, I suppose every day that I drew this, it was always International Women’s Day!
To one of my favorite books by a beloved author!
